Universal Kits
Before Timbren started to design SES kits, Timbren sold a kind of one-size-fits-all product. Eventually, these early designs became known as “universal kits.”
Universal kits were designed to fit light-duty pickups, vans and SUVs. A much bigger selection existed for medium and heavy-duty trucks. All kits required drilling, while some needed both drilling and welding.
Custom-designed kits don’t always fit certain vehicles. There are a number of reasons why such kits don’t exist:
- Age of the vehicle
- Size of the vehicle
- Original bump stops have been removed
- Vehicle has been customized
Furthermore, pre-measuring will determine a good fit. Check out the following tips on how to measure your vehicle:
Light Duty Pickup Trucks (front and rear)
- Make sure the vehicle is sitting level and unloaded
- Measure between frame and leaf spring (between U-bolts)
- There needs to be at least 5” of space between frame and leaf spring
Medium & Heavy-Duty Trucks (front)
- Make sure the vehicle is sitting level and unloaded
- Determine where on the leaf spring you want the Aeon® spring to be positioned
- Measure at that location the distance between frame and leaf spring
Medium & Heavy-Duty Trucks (rear)
- Make sure the vehicle is sitting level and unloaded
- Measure between frame and axle pad
- Be sure there is sufficient space to mount bracket to frame
If you can’t find a pre-designed kit for your vehicle on Timbren.com web site, don’t despair. There’s probably a universal kit that will work. Call or email your request to sales@timbren.com
