How does the Axle-Less trailer suspension compare with conventional axle systems?
Traditional axle suspensions for trailers
A torsion bar suspension, also known as a torsion spring suspension, uses a torsion bar as its main weight-bearing spring. One end of a long metal bar is attached firmly to the vehicle chassis; the opposite end terminates in a lever, the torsion key, mounted perpendicular to the bar, that is attached to a suspension arm, a spindle, or the axle. Vertical motion of the wheel causes the bar to twist around its axis and is resisted by the bar's torsion resistance.
A leaf spring is a simple form of suspension for wheeled vehicles. Originally called a carriage spring, it is one of the oldest forms of vehicle suspension. A leaf spring is one or more narrow, arc-shaped, thin plates that are attached to the axle and chassis in a way that allows the leaf spring to flex vertically in response to irregularities in the road surface. Lateral leaf springs are the most commonly used arrangement, running the length of the vehicle and mounted perpendicular to the wheel axle, but numerous examples of transverse leaf springs exist as well.
A trailing-arm suspension, also referred to as trailing-link, places one or more horizontal arms (or "links") perpendicular to and forward of the axle on the chassis which are connected to the axle or wheels with pivot joint(s). These are typically used on the rear axle or wheels of vehicles, but also found in both front and main landing gear of aircraft.
A "semi trailing-arm" (or semi trailing-link) is a common form of independent rear suspension on automobiles, and have recently been designed for trailers.
What is an Axle-Less trailer suspension?
*UNCONVENTIONAL: A design (or lifestyle) that is unusual (unorthodox), not following certain accepted norms.
Timbren has historically broken with conventional suspensions right from the start. Patented Aeon® hollow rubber springs is the foundation for their unusual (and clever) suspension designs. One perfect example is Timbren’s Axle-Less trailer suspension.
What makes the Axle-Less trailer suspension so unusual? Because there’s no solid axle! This break with convention has proven to be pure genius.
You may wonder: “Why no axle?” Here are some of the features and benefits that result when there’s no axle:
With no through axle to cause hang-ups, you maintain maximum ground clearance over rough terrain.
When each wheel moves independently, you maintain more control of your rig.
With no through axle to cause hang-ups, you maintain maximum ground clearance over rough terrain.
Stop the hop. Axle-Less trailer suspensions feature two Aeon® rubber springs, one for jounce and one for rebound, allowing for a quiet, smooth ride — on and off-road.
As an independent trailer suspension, you stay in control of your rig.
Building your own rig or retrofitting an existing one? No need to find an axle that fits. Our Axle-Less trailer suspensions are flexible options for your custom build.
The pre-assembled precision-cut hanger allows for straight-forward, bolt-on installation.
Go Anywhere. Tow anywhere.
The Axle-Less trailer suspension permits you to tow your trailer anywhere your tow vehicle can go. With no through axle to cause hang ups, you’ll experience exceptional ground clearance. And its independent-like trailer suspension, you’ll maintain maximum control of your rig, even navigating rough, off-road terrain.
And if you simply want a durable suspension for your custom rig, the Axle-Less suspension is flexible enough for any build. (Remember, there’s no solid axle!)
The Axle-Less patented design of two Aeon® rubber springs on a metal control arm guarantees a smooth, quiet ride — whether you’re heading down the highway or out on the trails.
